Monday November 10th
Well good evening to those that have taken the time to actually read this.
I, Amber, have been given the outstanding privilege to write the weekly log for this week. It has come to my attention by Mr. Masson himself that I should undoubtedly touch upon the beginning of our class, which was how Mr. Masson 'changed' the standard for citing sources for our archetype project. He went on to say that for something like a wikispace, there really isn't a specific 'work cited page,' but rather links to the website to further your research. He continued, adding, putting youtube videos on your wikispace would be allowed, that this again, furthers ones education. It isn't as though we want to take credit for making the video but rather put it there because it further proves our point. Therefore, the standard work cited page is sort of hard to grade since the standard for plagiarism has changed as technology changes. But I have no doubt Masson will find a way to grade it. Well then, this only really lasted a couple of minutes but the idea was executed fantasticlly, thank you Masson. And so although this started off exciting, the day was certainly boring. The class was sent to the computer lab to finish their archetype projects. But, I however sat there with nothing to do, since my project was done, (on time) before 9:00am Sunday morning, when Masson allegedly told the class he was going to grade them. To my surprise, some classmates still needed this time to work on their project. So I guess those memoirs Masson spent his weekend grading instead, payed off wonderfully. Not to mention those that still have not finished their film responses, which are way over due by almost two months, better get those finished as well. I think that's all i have to say for today. I hope everyone enjoys their day off tommorow and I will see all of you wednesday.

Wednesday November 12th
Hello there, let's see today the class began with a 'how to' lesson on finding out your archtype project grade. Incase you do not remember it will be on the bottom of your wikispace project page, attached as a word document. Mr. Masson however is going to make up a paper document of each presentation grade also, if I understand correctly because he started writing them on the wiki and then started just grading them normally. But anyway, the class was given a Film Info~Sheet today for a best picture oscar award winning film from 1954 called On the Waterfront. This black and white beauty was made possible by best director Oscar winning Elia Kazan, best screenplay Oscar winning Budd Schulberg and Pulitzar Prize winning Malcolm Johnson. This crime/drama cast features the famous method actor Marlon Brando, who won the Oscar for best actor for the character Terry Malloy; the lovely Eva Marie Saint who won the Oscar for best actress as Edie Doyle in her very first film performance. As well as Karl Malden as Father Barry, Lee J. Cobb as Johnny Friendly and Rob Steiger as Charley "the Gent" Malloy. The opening sequence featured tense music drawing in the classes attention to the big screen. We have gotten a taste of what Terry's character is like judging from his work with the mob. All we know so far is that Edie's brother was just murdered and the guys that try to work for the mob are working for blood money for which they just end up paying back their bosses with because of loans they owe them anyway. Nonetheless, the cops are suspitious of the death of Joey Doyle, however, if you, "don't say nuttin, keep quiet, you'll live longer." So let's take some word of advice, "I've been on the docks all my life, boy and there's one thing I've learned, you don't ask no questions, you don't answer no questions, unless you wanna wind up like that,[dead]" And so do with it what you will, I will see you all tommorow.

Thursday November 13th
Hmm, you know I am really starting to question why I even bother taking the time, MY TIME, to sit here and write this log. If I may, I will digress for a moment. Since I am studying The Scarlet Letter in my english class, one of our projects is to think of a letter that one character would wear to represent their sin, since this is what Hester Prynne does throughout the novel. Well, I have not thought of a letter for my character, however, I have thought up a great one for Mr. Masson. That would be the letter 'P,' for PROCRASTINATION. It saddens me to know my teacher doesn't read this because he waited last minute to grade his freshman class memoirs and the marking period is over, so he's got a major deadline to withstand. =[ But I will continue the log since I only have today's and tommorow's left. So back to what we did in class. Today we continued watching On the Waterfront. We have just watched the love interest come into play, between Terry and Edie. It seems despite what Pop says, Edie has fallen under the spell of the notorious 'bad boy.' She found a hidden sensitive, pigeon caring boy within Terry and I believe it won't be the last time we see these two love birds together. [ha ha, didn't actually intend for that] And so we will see what happends, for Terry has a huge decision to make. To save his own flesh and blood or his newly fluttered love for an innocent pigeon.
Terry and Edie's 'glove' scene, this was mostly improve on Brando's part.

Friday November 14th
Yippy! Thank you Mr. Masson for applying the "you must comment the log," rule. I am pleased to announce that everyone in the class will be reading the log!!!! =] I hope you all enjoy this one, because today will be my last day on the job, for now at least. And so, today we continued the film. We witnessed the most famous scene. [And the only movie where I watched a cab drive with a blind on his back window!] Terry is utterly dissapointed in his own brother, when Charley pulls a gun on his own kid brother, telling him he needs to keep his mouth shut about the mob jobs, or he'll be killed. Charley tells him, "you need to go back to being D and D. Go back to being deaf and dumb and take the new job opening." The audience gets a sence of the family relationship, as Patrick pointed out, it was the only real time the two brothers were alone and had a real heart to heart conversation. But despite all of Charley's pleading, Terry shoots him down. "You was my brother Charley, you shoulda looked out for me a little bit, you shoulda taken care of me just a little bit, so I wouldn't have to take them dives for the short end money... You don't understand I coulda had class, I coulda been a contender, I coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am, let's face it... it was you Charley." This was a tough scene to watch, [it almost brought me to tears] we come to realize that Charley was the real downfall of Terry's boxing career. If he only took better care of his kid brother, if he just believed in him, maybe, just maybe Terry wouldn't be the man he is now. [a bum] So instead of bringing Terry to his own murder, he stops the cab, gives Terry his gun and lets him out. This is where we leave off. What will our 'bad boy' do next? What's instore for Charley? Will Edie take Terry back? We must wait for monday to continue the final sequence of the film. And siging off for this weeks weekly log, I'm Amber, telling you see ya!
"I coulda been a Contender."
